"An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity"

- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

PROJECT (E)mpowerment a(N)d (D)evelopment was developed as a result of constant questioning of how I can use my gifts to make an impact on the world. I've always felt an innate connection to social causes related to improving the lives of children as well as global issues. I decided to launch a project dedicated to accomplishing this goal. My first task was deciding where to serve and how I would make a real difference?

The program wil bridge connections between children living in Africa and African-American children in the Philadelphia region, to create future global leaders who realize their connection to a larger community and the vital role they play in solving many of the world's challenges.

The organization has many exciting plans!

Initiative: Building Identity through Cultural Connections

A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots”

     – Marcus Garvey

The program will focus on eliminating the cultural disconnect and identity crisis plaguing African-American youth by bridging connections with youth in Africa to develop cross-cultural connections. The goal is to educate youth about the rich culture found on the continent, instill a sense of pride in youth, encourage them to embrace their roots and spark curiosity about Africa.

This goal will be achieved through a partnership with the organization “Africa Gathering” (www.africagathering.org) and leveraging educational curriculum provided by UNICEF’s TeachUNICEF program.

The program will serve youth (grades 6 – 12th) middle school and high school students within Philadelphia and Delaware County school districts.

Short-Term Goals:

  • Educate - children through local partnerships with schools and educational non-profit organizations based in the Philadelphia & Delaware County, PA area.
  •

Promote involvement and a "humanitarian spirit"  among children through interactive lesson plans and activities around themes such as:

                1. Eradicating poverty & hunger

              2. Ensuring access to education for all  children

              3. Promoting gender equality

    • Cultural identity - Bridging connections between African-American youth in America and African organizations to help establish African lineage, trace roots, learn about the continent's rich history and establish a sense of self as it relates to African ancestry
